Title: Geographic Realities and Unexpected Duties
The day began with a focus on both administrative preparation and the welcoming of newcomers. I spent time acquiring several new garments and accessories, including a lovely velvet gorget and headscarf set from Antaya, as maintaining a professional appearance is vital for my role as Governor’s Scribe.
While taking a quiet moment at the bakery, I encountered a confused man who addressed me as "Lady" despite being dressed in slave silks. Upon questioning, I discovered his name is Sicinnus; his owner recently passed, and he arrived in the city following a harrowing ship voyage where the slaves were neglected alongside livestock. Recognizing his desperate state, I ensured he was fed and watered. I have instructed him to remain at my heel for the time being, serving as my shadow while we find a more permanent place for him within the city's structures.
Later in the afternoon, I provided a tour to two visitors, Lady Wynna and her escort Sir Wolffe, who are seeking a new home. We visited the Academy, the Scribe Hall—where I assisted Lady Wynna in leaving a scroll for the Head of Caste, Sphere Proto—and the Warrior grounds. We had a brief run-in with Commander Razor, who was surprised to see the gates unlocked, but the tour concluded peacefully.
Class Summary: Cities and Geography (101 Series, Week 5)
The Island of Civilization: We discussed the fundamental Gorean reality that cities are isolated lifeboats of law and order within a vast, dangerous wilderness governed only by the Natural Order.
Major Ranges and Wastes:
The Sardar: The spiritual center and home of the Priest-Kings. It is a forbidden zone where trespassers simply vanish.
The Voltai: The "Red Mountains," home to wild tarns, larls, and the fierce Red Savages.
The Tahari: A brutal wasteland essential for its salt mines, which provide the preservative that keeps Gor’s food supply stable.
The Great Poleis: * Ar: The "Rome of Gor," defined by its massive cylinders and police-state efficiency.
Ko-ro-ba: The resilient "Towers of the Morning," valuing culture and the arts.
Port Kar: The lawless "Scourge of the Thassa," populated by the planet's finest sailors and most dangerous pirates.
Turia: A rich, white-domed fortress in the southern hemisphere known for its heavy veils and constant warfare with the Wagon Peoples.
Gorean Fauna: We touched upon the biological pressures that make Gorean animals faster and more aggressive than those on Earth, specifically focusing on the Tharlarion.
To Do:
Finalize the transcribe of the High Council meeting for the Governor.
Monitor Sicinnus’s health and behavior; he seems to be responding well to regular meals.
Follow up with Sphere Proto regarding the scroll Lady Wynna left in his mailbox.
Continue the meticulous task of correctly labeling the Library notecards to ensure public access is finally restored.
