The Weight of Knowledge and the Scribe's Burden - February 17

Journal Entry: February 17, 2026

Location: Ar's Station / Lara II

Mood/Title: The Weight of Knowledge and the Scribe's Burden

The day began in Lara II with the second session of my introductory course. The subject was the Natural Order and the Caste System. It is always a challenging topic for those born of Earth, confronting them with the stark realities of biological hierarchy, the roles of the High and Low Castes, and the sharp divide between Citizen and Slave.

I explained the duties and characteristics of the White, Blue, Yellow, Green, and Red castes, emphasizing that while they govern, the city relies entirely on the Peasantry, Artisans, and Merchants to survive. I also addressed the uncomfortable reality of the collar, explaining the concept of "Perfect Freedom" and the immense liability a Master holds for his property. The Earth-born students, particularly Olivia, struggled with these concepts, but she remained respectful.

Later, back at Ar's Station, I had a somewhat baffling encounter with a man named Das Dibou, who seemed to be subtly inquiring about purchasing forged free papers for an unnamed slave. I quickly shut down his line of questioning, reminding him that as a Magistrate, my integrity is not for sale, and any such paperwork requires direct verification from the slave's owner.

Following this, I met Runa Stormdottir, a Northern woman interested in the Scribe caste. We discussed the possibility of her and her mate starting a city newspaper, and I directed her to our Head of Caste, Sphere.

I also spent some time working with Shania Shiras, setting up her notice board in the Academy and giving her a brief tour of the city, including the High Caste courtyard and the bathhouse. We encountered Elusia again during our walk, though she was unable to join us for long.

To Do:

  • Review the assignments submitted by the students in Lara II (observing social friction between castes).

  • Continue organizing the curriculum for the upcoming CIRCLE program.

  • Speak with Sphere about Runa Stormdottir's interest in joining the Scribes and potentially starting a newspaper.
