Title: Architectural Shifts and the Authentic Woman
The morning began with a focused effort on the Academy's environment. My son Asher decided to relocate the classroom, believing the new location to be superior after some complaints regarding the previous one. While it is a bit more of a trek, I am hopeful that the promised teleporter in the warehouse will alleviate the strain on our citizens' legs. I’ve spent time re-syncing the XANBoard to ensure the April schedule is visible to all who make the journey up.
I had a brief, thoughtful conversation with Lady Jacquie. We noted that the city seems quieter than usual, likely due to the merchant fairs elsewhere, but we shared our mutual desire to see Ar's Station grow. I also took the opportunity to update our teacher guidelines and refine the "Scribe Hall" area, where I’ve set up a proper mailbox for Sphere Proto.
Later, I traveled to the En'Kara fairgrounds to attend a highly anticipated presentation at the Open Forum. The topic, "An Authentic Free Woman," led by Vixen Gates-SpiritWeaver, sparked a lively debate among the attendees. We grappled with the tension between Second Life requirements and traditional Gorean codes, specifically regarding the "oath" to a Home Stone.
Class Summary: The Home Stone and Caste (Attended at En'Kara)
The Home Stone: Defined as the physical heart and spiritual identity of a Gorean city. Every free person must belong to one, or be deemed an outlaw. We discussed the nuances of "City," "Village," and "Household" stones.
The Second Life Conflict: A spirited debate ensued regarding "forced" oaths in SL. Many felt that being required to swear to every new city one visits contradicts the Gorean ideal of a lifelong, unbreakable bond to one's first Home Stone.
Caste Stability: We explored how Castes are traditionally inherited and ingrained through a lifetime of training. While changing Castes is rare and usually requires extraordinary circumstances (like injury or political exile), it is possible for a woman to take the Caste of her Free Companion.
Caste Dishonor: We reminded ourselves that a Caste is a moral obligation; to fail in its duties is to lose one's primary identity and honor.
To Do:
Finalize the move of my personal desk and reference materials to the new Academy office.
Review the "Guidelines for Teachers" one last time before distributing them to new faculty.
Coordinate with Asher to ensure the warehouse teleporter is functional for the next scheduled class.
Continue the long-term project of categorization for the library's 4,400 items.
