Title: Scribe Day and the Path of Knowledge
Today was a momentous occasion at the Fair—Scribe Day! The air was thick with the scent of old parchment and fresh ink as the Scribe Tent became the heart of intellectual exchange. I spent the early morning refining my own notes and ensuring the Academy's XANBoard accurately reflected the upcoming schedule for the transition into Year 10,177 C.A., which begins this Friday.
The highlight of the day was the series of lectures held within our tent. It was a proud moment for our caste to see such a dedicated turnout, even with the technical "sim restarts" that plague the fairgrounds. I was particularly impressed by the younger apprentices and their hunger for the "Second Knowledge." We discussed the heavy responsibility we carry as keepers of history and law.
I also had a very productive meeting with my son Asher regarding the city's growth. He has been working tirelessly on new scribe housing, and it looks like I will be moving my home and office to a magnificent new spot in the city. I’m especially excited to keep my Tia tree in this new space—it’s a piece of home I wasn't ready to part with.
Class Summary: Scribe Materials & Gorean Law (Scribe Tent)
Scribe Materials: We had an illuminating session on the physical tools of our trade. Khalil and the kajirus Falk demonstrated the processing of Rence into various grades of paper. We compared the homogeneous paper used in the cities to the traditional Parchment (untanned animal skin) still used by the Wagon Peoples. We also discussed the use of Linen paper for refined correspondence and the technical existence of quill pens and ruling pens for cartography.
Calendar Standardization: The Khan of Isfahan presented a vital proposal for a common Gorean calendar. We agreed to fix the New Year to the 20th of March (the Vernal Equinox). By aligning with Earth's leap year cycles (subtracting 8,151 years), we determined that this Friday marks the beginning of 10,177 C.A.
Initiate Law for Scribes: Blessed Tariq gave a sobering lecture on the "Ecclesiastical" courts. We discussed the "Practical Bargain" between civil and religious authorities—where the city enforces religious obligations (like the Sardar Pilgrimage) to avoid the Flame Death, while the Initiates handle internal caste purity and matters of blasphemy within their own courts.
The Path of the Scribe: Lady Jessie shared her journey from manumission to apprentice, emphasizing that being a Scribe is an identity of service, not just a title. She outlined the stages of growth from refilling ink pots to producing a "Capstone Project" that benefits the Home Stone.
To Do:
Transcribe the detailed notes from the "Philosophy of Love" and "Gorean Zodiac" lectures for the archive.
Coordinate the move of my desk and library items to the new city sector Asher provided.
Reach out to the Scribes of Port Victoria to discuss the "Assistant Head of Caste" role and how to formalize those expectations.
Prepare for 101 Week 6: Gorean Language and Literature.
