The Scholar's Material and the Relocation of Knowledge - March 18

 Journal Entry: March 18, 2026

Location: Ar's Station / En'Kara Fairgrounds

Title: The Scholar's Material and the Relocation of Knowledge

The day was defined by a significant transition for the Station Academy. My son Asher completed the move of our classroom to a new location up by the Temple. While it is a bit more of a journey for the students, it removes the OOC activity from the central roleplay areas, which I believe will be better for the city's immersion in the long run. I spent time setting up the new space, including adding a teleporter linked from the warehouse to help those who find the walk too taxing. I also acquired some lovely new furniture—a lounge set and an orange tree—to make the new office feel like home.

At the Fair, I attended several illuminating lectures at the Scribe Tent. The day began with "Love on Gor: Lecture III - The Slave," where we explored the radical emotional honesty found within the collar. It was a profound look at how a slave’s love is a total surrender, uninhibited by the social "governance" required of free women. Following this, I attended two lectures by my colleagues: one on the physical materials of our craft and another on the legal intricacies of the Initiate Caste.

I also had a very pleasant, albeit OOC, reunion with Caroline Gallius. We spent time exploring my new city office and discussing our Earth-style wardrobes. It was a rare and welcome moment of relaxation amidst a very busy week.

Class Summary: Scribe Materials (Khalil of Isfahan)

  • The Foundation of Paper: We reviewed the technical differences between Parchment (untanned animal skin) and Paper (pulp-based).

  • The Rence Plant: Discussed as the "Gorean Papyrus." We explored the harvesting process and how it is processed into various grades of paper, noting its indigenous growth in the Vosk Delta and Schendi.

  • Writing Instruments: We analyzed the use of Reed pens, Quill pens, and specialized Ruling pens for cartography. We also touched upon the Stylus used for wax tablets and the Scribe Kit—the essential rectangular box for carrying a scribe's tools (and occasionally a flask of paga).

  • Printing on Gor: Challenged the myth that books are too advanced for Gor. We reviewed evidence of shorthand, silk-screen printing for posters/notices, and the existence of bound books in major city libraries.

Class Summary: Initiate Law for Scribes (Blessed Tariq)

  • Jurisdiction: Discussed the "Practical Bargain" where civil authorities enforce religious obligations (like the Sardar Pilgrimage) to protect the city from the Flame Death, while Initiates maintain their own courts for internal caste matters and blasphemy.

  • Sovereignty: Explored the theoretical idea that all law is delegated from the Priest-Kings, which justifies the religious rituals required of even secular city officials.

  • Sanctuary: Reviewed the Chrism of Temporary Permission, which allowed civil authorities to enter shrines to remove fugitives, highlighting the historical tension between the Temple and the Throne.

To Do:

  • Review the "Sardar Fair Day 4, 5, and 6" logs from Trygg Tyran.

  • Finalize the placement of the new library notecards in the moved office.

  • Reach out to Rarius Yuroki to discuss the concept of "Merchant Risk" and "Standardized Agreements" as proposed in the insurance discussion.

  • Prepare the upcoming 101 Week 6 lecture on "Gorean Language and Literature."
