Title: Navigating the Map and the Market
The day was spent balancing the expansion of my personal library with the logistical demands of the Station Academy. I spent time acquiring several specialized Gorean reference materials and garment fatpacks, including maps and modesty veils, to ensure my own archives and appearance remain exhaustive and appropriate for my station.
I dedicated a significant portion of my time to the Academy’s XANBoard, updating the calendar through April. I’ve ensured that the 101 and 201 series are clearly delineated, particularly regarding the upcoming En’Kara sessions. Trygg Tyran provided me with the finalized schedule for the Scribe Tent at the fair, which I’ve now integrated. It is heartening to see the curriculum growing, though I still feel the weight of the library organization—labeling over 4,400 items is a monumental task that requires more of my focus to ensure the students can navigate it effectively.
In the afternoon, I held the fifth session of the 101 series, "Cities and Geography," at the Academy. While Carola had to leave early due to an alarm in her shop, the discussion remained focused on the survivalist reality of Gorean geography. We spoke of the cities as islands of safety and the wilderness as a predatory ocean. Olivia and Duncan Willis were attentive as we mapped out the spiritual importance of the Sardar and the economic necessity of the Tahari salt mines.
Class Summary: Cities and Geography (101 Series, Week 5)
The Gorean Reality: We explored the concept that civilization on Gor is an island. Safety exists only within city walls; outside, one enters the "Natural Order" where law is replaced by the strength of the predator.
The Sardar Mountains: Discussed as the home of the Priest-Kings and a forbidden zone. We noted it is a place where law has no authority and trespassers simply vanish.
The Voltai Range: Defined as the "Red Mountains," home to wild tarns and the dangerous Red Savages. It serves as the primary barrier between the northern and southern regions.
The Tahari Desert: While a wasteland, we discussed its vital role in the global economy due to the Salt Mines. Without Tahari salt, the preservative needs of Gor's cities could not be met.
Major Poleis: We compared the police-state cylinder architecture of Ar, the high culture of Ko-ro-ba, and the canal-based pirate haven of Port Kar.
Fauna: Briefly touched upon the Tharlarion, the Gorean reptilian equivalent to the horse, ranging from draft animals to bipedal war mounts.
To Do:
Finalize the organization of the "Scribe Tent" schedule for our En’Kara participation.
Review the homework assignments regarding the "Arena vs. Brawl" observations.
Follow up with the shopkeepers about active hours to increase city engagement.
Continue the long-term project of indexing the 4,420 library notecards.
