Lessons and Reconciliations - February 23

Journal Entry: February 23, 2026

Location: Ar's Station / Lara II / Two Scimitars Oasis

Mood/Title: Lessons and Reconciliations

Today was a busy day, primarily focused on education. I traveled to Lara II to deliver my third lecture in the "Introduction to Gorean Civilization" series. This week's topic was Gorean Laws and Customs, specifically the practical details of daily life—food, dress, and the game of Kaissa. The students, including Carola and Duncan, seemed very engaged, particularly with the description of Kaissa and the nuances of Gorean fashion and dining etiquette. I am pleased with how the class went.

Prior to that, I attended a Scribe meeting at the Two Scimitars Oasis to discuss the upcoming En'Kara fair in Teletus. Trygg, Kar, and others were present. The schedule for the Scribe Tent is filling up quickly, and the "Noctis Trivialis" hosted by Nic sounds especially fun. There was also a brief, but necessary, address regarding recent harassment incidents against some Scribes. We must stand united against such disruptive behavior.

Back at the Station Academy, I had a surprise visit from Roja. It was good to see her looking well, though the lingering tension between her and my father remains a heavy subject. I provided her with the notes from the first two weeks of my class so she could catch up. Shortly after she left, Laela arrived with a Northern Jarl, Dax Darkhammer, showing him around the Academy. It is encouraging to see the school generating interest even among visitors from other cities!

Class Summary: Gorean Laws and Customs (Taught by Lady Kati)

  • Gorean Diet: We discussed the hearty, unadulterated nature of Gorean food. Staples include Sa-Tarna (yellow grain/bread), Tarsk (porcine meat, the primary fuel of the city), Vulo (poultry), Tabuk (lean antelope), and Bosk (cattle).

  • Beverages: Paga is the potent, boiling-hot grain alcohol favored in taverns, while Ka-la-na is the refined, dry red wine favored by the High Castes.

  • Dining Etiquette: Meals are eaten with the right hand or a simple knife. The left hand is never used to offer food. Slaves are to serve silently; a Free Person never thanks a slave, as obedience is expected, not a surprise.

  • Fashion and Utility: Men wear short tunics (mid-thigh) to allow for freedom of movement in combat. Free Women wear longer, flowing robes and, in public, the Robes of Concealment and a veil to protect their beauty.

  • Caste Colors and Pins: High Castes wear specific colors (White for Initiates, Blue for Scribes, Yellow for Builders, Green for Physicians, Scarlet for Warriors). Everyone wears a small metal pin denoting their caste. Wearing unearned colors or pins is a severe crime.

  • Kaissa: The supreme game of the Gorean intellect, played on a 10x10 red and yellow board. It teaches strategy and logic, with pieces representing the social order (Home Stone, Ubar, Tarnsman, Scribe, etc.). It is played in absolute silence and with deep respect.

To Do:

  • Prepare the lesson plan for tomorrow's class on Gorean Laws and Customs at the Station Academy.

  • Continue organizing the CIRCLE curriculum.

  • Review the En'Kara schedule and finalize my presentation topic.
