Title: The Scarlet Walls and the Looming Council
The morning at the Station Academy was spent in quiet preparation and administrative updates. I finalized the March calendar on the XANBoard, carefully plotting out the upcoming 201 series—including the focus on Marlenus of Ar—and our 101 lectures. It is essential that the students have a clear view of the curriculum as we approach the festivities of En'Kara. I also received a formal response regarding city requests from my son Asher, which I need to review in preparation for the upcoming Council session.
Later, I held the fourth session of the 101 series, focusing on "Warriors and Warfare." It was a pleasure to have Carola Titus and Duncan of Olni in attendance. We had a spirited discussion about the discipline of the Scarlet Caste and the staggering logistical reality of tarn warfare. Carola inquired about the Academy's schedule during the En'Kara fair; I’ve decided to maintain the 101 basic track to support those new to the city, while pausing the advanced 201 series to allow citizens to participate in the fair's events.
Throughout the day, I also dealt with a few lingering technical issues in the library. Leonardo di Montezzemolo (phuongdong) attempted to access the Ubarate logs but was met with script errors. I managed to resolve his access, but it highlights the ongoing need to simplify and correctly label the 4,420 items currently housed in our archives. A teacher’s work is never solely at the podium; it is in the organization of the knowledge itself.
Class Summary: Warriors and Warfare (101 Series, Week 4)
The Function of the Scarlet Caste: We defined the Warrior as the "flesh wall" of the city. Unlike mercenaries who fight for coin, the true Warrior fights for the Home Stone and the Code of the Sword.
The Poet-Warrior: We challenged the "all muscle" stereotype, noting that Gorean Warriors are educated in strategy, logic, history, and poetry to better value the beauty they must protect.
The Ubarate: Discussed the transition from Administration to the Ubarate during times of crisis, where civil law is suspended for absolute martial authority.
The Tarn: Explored the biology and tactical use of the giant carnivorous hawk. We emphasized that tarns are predators to be dominated, not pets, and discussed their roles in messaging, reconnaissance, and incendiary bombing.
Infantry & The Phalanx: Reviewed the use of the Gladius (short sword) and spear in tight shield-wall formations, where discipline is the difference between a city’s survival and its fall.
Siege Tactics: Defined Circumvallation (walling around an enemy) and the use of starvation and heavy siege engines designed by the Builders but operated by the Warriors.
To Do:
Review the Council Meeting agenda (scheduled for March 7th) and Asher's response notecard.
Continue refining the Library indexing to prevent future access errors for students.
Evaluate the 100-level homework assignments (Comparing a "brawl" vs. a "spar").
